We had the pleasure of completing two log cabins for a client.
Nestled away in the Blackdown Hills in the Somerset countryside, this plot was the perfect place for some rustic cabins.
Constructed using both Douglas Fir & Larch, all ethically sourced from Longleat Forest. This was an intricate & skilled job as each log was individually scribed to the log below, allowing for slight insolation between. Every joint was cut using chainsaws & chisels, showing the level of our craftmanship.
The outside was then clad using Cedar with shingles on the roof. This was made to sympathetically fit in with the nature surrounding it.
Everything that we did had to take into consideration the natural products used. Wood will naturally expand & contract due to moisture content. This can be daily temperature or humidity levels as well as seasonal changes . Over time this structure will shrink by up to 150mm so all building, along with joinery had to allow for this movement.

We had the pleasure of returning back to this project to take some pictures & are excited to share our work with you all.

The main cabin compromises of a large open plan living area including kitchen, dining & living spaces with full height vaulted ceilings. With exposed beams to add that all important character & many windows to keep things light & bright. This space is the perfect spot for family living or entertaining friends & family.

On the ground level there is also 2x double bedrooms & a bathroom, all designed to be wheelchair accessible.
As you climb up the wooden staircase, you reach a mezzanine level which is home to the master bedroom & ensuite with views out to the surrounding countryside & neighbouring sheep.

The logs were cut through in situ to create the opening & then all of the windows & doors were lovingly made in our workshop. I think you’ll all agree, that view is something special.

The character of the wood is the real showstopper throughout & it gives a rustic, cosy feel complimented with a log burner….the perfect place to curl up with a book.

Opposite lies a 2nd log cabin or a ‘little sister’, this time on a much smaller scale, but still perfectly formed.

A big thank you to our client for allowing us to be part of such an amazing project!
We are extremely proud of this project & the craftsmanship from our team.
Thanks for reading & do let us know what you think.
